The village of Mersault is located in Cote de Beaune between the villages of Volny and Puligny-Montrachet. Its name probably derives from the Celtic word "mare", which means "swamp, swamp." Indeed, today part of the village is in the lowland. The cultivation of the Chardonnay variety is explained by the concentration of white marl on predominantly limestone soils. This type of soil is ideal for Chardonnay.
