Aging potential: the wine can be stored for up to 50 years, reaching a peak 25-30 years after harvest.
Historical significance: The production of this wine in Refrontolo has a tradition that dates back to 1400. This wine was drunk by mothers after the birth of their sons because of its restorative properties. Marzemino Passito from Refrontolo also made an impression on Mozart, who even mentioned it in his opera Don Giovanni as “this is a beautiful Marzemino”. In fact, he received this wine from Mr. Da Ponte of Vittorio, Veneto (a town near Refrontolo), Mozart's scribe.
Production area: Colvendrame estate, which is located in the hills between Conegliano. and Valdobbiadene, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Kolvendrame is the name of the hill where this vineyard is located.
Soil: with a good balance of all components, rich in tuff that characterizes the wine.
Climate: mild and windy, with sharp changes in temperature day and night, ideal for preserving the aroma and acidity of the grapes.
Planting year: 1987.
Vineyard management: to achieve perfect ripening of the grapes, summer pruning and gentle leaf thinning are carried out. In addition, yields remain very low in order to obtain grapes with a rich body and aroma.
Harvest: late September when the grapes are ripe and fully developed aromatic properties and smoothed tannins. The grapes are carefully selected at harvest time and then left to dry.
Aged for 36 months in oak barriques.
