Translated from Italian "Sassicaia" means "stone ground". The wine got its name thanks to the rocky soils of Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards. The first wine of this brand on the market was made from grapes of the 1968 harvest.
Tenuta San Guido is one of the most famous Italian wine producers, whose vineyards are located in the Tuscan sub-region of Bolgheri. In addition to wines, the farm produces traditional extra virgin olive oil and grappa. The estate belongs to the Italian winemaking family Incisa della Rocchetta, who are rightfully considered the pioneers in the development of Bordeaux grape varieties in Italy and the creation of "Super Tuscan" wines. The Sassicaia vineyards are located 80 meters above sea level. The close sea and the hills surrounding the vineyards, which protect them from the wind, have a great influence on the climate. The vineyards are planted using the "cordone speronato" technology. Productivity is about 5000 kg per hectare.
Wine aging: each grape variety is aged separately in French oak barriques (one third of a new tree and the rest, first and second passage) for 24 months.
After which the wine is mixed before bottling.
